MUS-T 102: Introduction to Harmony. 10 weeks
Description: This Introduction to Harmony course provides a fundamental understanding of tonal harmony, examining the concepts such as triads and the inversions, diatonic chords in major and minor keys, the primary triads, harmonic function, basic chord progressions, and types of cadences. There will be exercises and score analysis practiced reinforcing the understanding.
MUS-C 202: Intermediate to Advanced Conducting. 10 weeks.
Description: This class will focus on conducting techniques of expressive gestures; complicated rhythmic patterns; asymmetric meters, unmetered music, subdivision of beats, super-metric patterns; internal cut-offs; choral blending and tuning; rehearsal strategies.
We will concentrate on selected hymns of Great Lent and Pascha. Each hymn will be examined in terms of score preparation, rehearsals techniques, and conducting. Participants will receive both classroom instruction and tutoring on their conducting techniques.
