A new semester of The Ecclesiastical Online Music School

MUS-T 102: Introduction to Harmony. 10 weeks

Description: This Introduction to Harmony course provides a fundamental understanding of tonal harmony, examining the concepts such as triads and the inversions, diatonic chords in major and minor keys, the primary triads, harmonic function, basic chord progressions, and types of cadences. There will be exercises and score analysis practiced reinforcing the understanding.

MUS-C 202: Intermediate to Advanced Conducting. 10 weeks.

Description:  This class will focus on conducting techniques of expressive gestures; complicated rhythmic patterns; asymmetric meters, unmetered music, subdivision of beats, super-metric patterns; internal cut-offs; choral blending and tuning; rehearsal strategies.

We will concentrate on selected hymns of Great Lent and Pascha. Each hymn will be examined in terms of score preparation, rehearsals techniques, and conducting. Participants will receive both classroom instruction and tutoring on their conducting techniques.

MUS-C-PL-Z: Private Conducting Lessons for All Levels. 10 weeks

St. Moses the Black Fellowship Choir

October 11-13, 2024. Zhanna directs the St. Moses the Black Fellowship Choir (FSMB Choir) at the National Conference’s Conference. The FSMB Choir sings at the Jubilee Divine Liturgy on October 12, and the Chamber choir at the Divine Liturgy on October 13. The Conference takes place at Joy Of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church, Indianapolis, IN.

The Winter Sacred Music Institute of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese

February 22-25, 2024. The Winter Sacred Music Institute of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese took place at St. George Cathedral, Coral Gables, Florida. Theme of the conference is "The Pentecostarion: from Pascha to Pentecost."  

Dr. Lehmann taught a choral conducting course, private voice and conducting lessons.

The Annual Nativity Concert of the Illinois Orthodox Choir

The annual Nativity Concert of the Illinois Orthodox Choir took place on December 17, 2023. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Urbana, Illinois. The choir performed several new pieces composed by Abbess Katherine Weston: I Will Love Thee, Beatitudes, and Blessed Be The Name of the Lord. It also featured a composition by Fr. John Finley “Today Unto the Stable Cave.”

Singing Toppers

In September of 2023 Zhanna Lehmann started a new vocal ensemble, Singing Toppers at Schlarman Academy, Danville, IL. The a cappella group motivates talented young singers to develop their vocal and musical skills. Singing Toppers perform at school concerts, school Masses, and sporting events. The debut of the Singing Toppers occurred on December 3rd, 2023 at the annual Christmas concert for Schlarman Academy, Danville, Illinois. This concert was recorded by one of the local radio stations in Danville and broadcasted later.
